Peter Liba passed away at the age of 67 on 22 June 2007; in the news stories his examplar life was recalled, the pinnacle of which was serving as 22nd Lieutenant Governor from March 1999 to June 2004.  It is indeed a sad loss for the city.  What was not mentioned in any story I read, and which may or may not impact the current situation with Upper Fort Garry, is that the Honourable Peter Liba was the head of the Steering Committe for Friend’s of Upper Fort Garry.  Doubtless there is a system to accommodate for such a situation, but nevertheless the group must be in mourning now and I extend my sympathies to them, and to Peter Liba’s family, at their loss.
