A Mayor’s Support

December 20th, 2007

Yesterday, Gordon Sinclair of the Winnipeg Free Press wrote an enlightened article regarding the recent decision by the downtown development committee.  While I certainly do not want to completely negate any praise due to the Mayor’s support of the committee’s decision, I think that the harsh terms he imposed are harsh: (i) until March 31, 2008, to raise $10 million dollars, and (ii) secure a plot of land adjacent to the site from a club that is not particularly eager to sell.  I still have confidence in the ability of the Friends of Upper Fort Garry to meet these high requirements.

The article is available here, and please leave a comment if you have any opinions on the matter.  Although there is an option to log in, you do not have to have an account to leave a comment.

My grandchildren are Metis and were excited to visit the fort with their school. I am a great grandchild of Sir Wilfred Laurier’s Manitoba cousin. He is the Prime Minister on the $5.00 bill.

What will an apartment for the upper class do for all of our great grandchildren?
Can economic benefits of the highrise not be met by building it somewhere more appropriate? Aren’t the prairies about open spaces?
