Site O International

SITE O is an international research and discussion group of people from around the world who have a shared interest in fortifications and/or artillery. The membership includes authors, members of the military, museum curators and professors who are involved in research on these topics, as well as students, teachers, medical doctors, business men and enthusiasts. Many of these people are involved in a variety non-related professions. Many others have a strong interest in these topics ranging from ancient history to the modern era. We have representation in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

The purpose of the site is to offer an easy and accessible source of information and aid to those doing research. Some members receive the help of others in doing research for projects, while others simply use the group to help increase their own knowledge. The goal of these pages is to help those who need it. So why not join us and help in spread of knowledge? Anything you know can be of use!

History of Site O

SITE O was established by J.E. Kaufmann and Lee Unterborn in the spring of 1998.

The original founding members are numbers 1 through 33. In the autumn of 1998 Kathy Barthen replaced Lee as webmaster and rebuilt the site on a server in Ireland which allowed the site to expand. Since then SITE O grew rapidly and new members included the founders and members of several major associations including the FORTRESS STUDY GROUP (U.K.), COAST DEFENSE STUDY GROUP (U.S.), and LE MUR (France).

In the winter of 1999-2000 Clayton Donnel created a temporary site when it became necessary to move locations again.  In the spring of 2000 Olle Dahlquist took the position as webmaster and rebuilt SITE O on a new server in Sweden.  The membership has continued to grow and we now have members in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
